Assistant Chief Instructor.

We are recruiting an Assistant Chief Instructor to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Instructor, this is a varied role assisting in delivering, maintaining, and exceeding standards in training, maintenance, and customer experience.

The position is permanent and full-time with a mixture of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts required, primarily at Big Rock Hub, but working across both our sites in Milton Keynes. This position would suit an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with excellent attention to detail and a passion for sharing their love of climbing.

Job description.

Assist the Chief Instructor with:

  • Recruitment, training, and development of instructors

  • Development of instructed sessions and operating procedures

  • Maintaining instructor and NICAS databases

  • Identifying and closing knowledge gaps across all areas of the centres, developing, and training centre staff

Other responsibilities:

  • Delivering a variety of high-quality instructed sessions in line with company procedures

  • Assisting with regular PPE checks and undertaking centre maintenance (e.g. removal and installation of auto-belays)

  • Assisting at reception when required, with tasks such as registering new climbers and floor walking

  • Actively engaging with our climbing community to inform and assist in the development of wall user best practice

  • Other duties as required

Essential skills.

  • CWI and CWDI (or equivalent)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate and Safeguarding certificate

  • Working knowledge of NICAS

  • Experience working within an indoor climbing environment

  • Energetic, motivated and have a genuine enthusiasm for working with people.

  • Excellent organisation, time management, and communication skills.

Desirable skills.

  • FCA

  • Proficient in using Rock Gym Pro, Papertrail, Microsoft Office & Excel, and Google Workspace.

  • Experience maintaining and inspecting PPE

  • At least 2 years experience working within an indoor climbing environment

  • RSD

Salary, Hours & Benefits.

  • Annual Salary £25,032

  • 40 hours per week (full-time)

  • Shifts will include daytime, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays
